Tavistock, Ancient Stannary Town
Tavistock is a thriving, beautifully friendly market town that is worthy of any visitor. An ancient stannary town, Tavistock is the only town in Devon to hold world heritage status. The vibrancy and uniqueness of Tavistock is undeniable with a range of beautiful local independent shops which are a far cry from today's typical high street. Not to be overlooked is the famous pannier market or the award-winning farmers’ market. It is truly a shoppers paradise.

Shop Locally and Sustainably in Tavistock
Tavistock is not only known for its charming streets and historic architecture but also for its strong commitment to sustainability and supporting local businesses. The town boasts a vibrant community of independent shops and businesses, making it a haven for those seeking unique, locally made products. From artisan crafts to gourmet food, the town's market and boutique shops offer an array of treasures waiting to be discovered. By shopping local, visitors can directly support the livelihoods of talented artisans and producers, contributing to the town's economic growth and preserving its distinct character.

Tavistock Pannier Market, a True Gem
At the heart of the town lies the Tavistock Pannier Market, a historic market with roots dating back to the 12th century. Today, it remains a bustling hub of activity, where traders gather to sell everything from fresh produce to handmade gifts. Stroll through the market's colourful stalls, engage with friendly vendors, and savour the sense of community that embodies Tavistock's spirit.

Kit Hill
If the weather is kind, we will stop off on our way back home to admire the view at Kit Hill. Located in the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), Kit Hill Country Park is a beautifil place to visit. Shaped by over 5,000 years of human activity, this wild and rugged granite hilltop is famous for its fine views and fascinating history, as well as its flora and fauna.

Calstock
If the weather is not so kind, we could instead visit Calstock. Located on the banks of the River Tamar, Calstock has a rich history as an industrial port and a mining town. It is a pretty village with cottages lining the narrow streets as they climb up the steep bank of the Tamar. Calstock is dominated by the magnificent railway viaduct which was built in 1907 and is one of the last great railway viaducts. Standing at 120 feet tall with 12 sixty foot arches, the viaduct carries the Tamar Valley railway which runs from Plymouth to Gunnislake.
